Legislative Breakfast
The Legislative Committee
has vowed to hold a Legislative Breakfast every other year after a
successful event for the first time in 2007.
On March 7, 2007, The NHWPCA co-sponsored (with NEWEA) its first
Legislative Breakfast and 30 elected representatives and senators
came out for an excellent morning with good presentations from Sarah
Goyette, George Neill, Jim Taylor (Merrimack), Rick Seymour
(Nashua), Ray Vermette (Dover) and a local farmer that uses
biosolids, Rob Morrill.
The following day on March 8th several NHWPCA members testified
before the House Environment & Agriculture Committee. Sarah Goyette
did an excellent job speaking on behalf of the NHWPCA, and Nashua,
Concord, Merrimack, NEBRA and RMI all testified on the 5 different
bills currently in the House. The testimony throughout the day was
well received.
On Friday the 9th, more than 20 WWTFs throughout NH offered tours
for legislators. A handful of these elected officials did make it
out to some of the WWTFs and got excellent tours, including at
Nashua, Dover and the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program WWTF. All of
the WWTFs that agreed to host these tours are commended for their
efforts, and we are excited about the outreach efforts to date.
On March 15th members of the NHWPCA met again with E&A
representatives to work further on the proposed legislation, and on
March 16th we testified in front of the Joint Legislative Committee
on Administrative Rules (JLCAR) in support of the proposed changes
to the Sludge/Biosolids Rules.
