Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee
is responsible for applying a portion of the Association's assets to
a New Hampshire student who is going on to college and undertaking
studies in the environment field. The other
portion of the budget is set aside for member operators who want
partial funding to attend one-day seminars or short courses.
Student Scholarship:
An annual scholarship
of
$1000.00 will be awarded to a graduating senior who meets the
eligibility requirements as listed in the informational document.
The scholarship normally opens in February with the applications due
in April. Finalists will be selected and will be notified by the Scholarship Committee
(see below).
We are always
looking for recipients for these scholarship awards.
Applications are normally available in December and due in March.

The responsibilities of the
scholarship committee are:

Review the requests submitted by
NH resident students and determine if they meet the criteria

Award the scholarship to the most
deserving applicant and be able to justify choice without
prejudice

Review requests made by member
operators for training requests and act on them in a timely
manner

Present recommendation of choices
to the Board of Directors

The NHWPCA is pleased to announce the winner for 2011 is
Jeff McNeill.
Jeff is a graduating senior of Pinkerton
Academy who has been involved with the FIRST robotics competition
for the past four years and an avid skier. As son of past NHWPCA
president, Fred McNeill, Jeff has shown a keen interest in
engineering. He will be attending Colorado State University pursing
an Environmental Engineering degree. He hopes to combine the problem
solving skill learned with his love of the outdoors to find
solutions in protecting the environment and its natural resources.

The 2009 recipient of the
NHWPCA $1,000 scholarship was Marissa Lynn of Bow.
Announcement:
Marissa is a senior at Bow
High School and has shown a commitment to improving the health of
New Hampshire waters. She has spent her senior year researching the
effects of pollution on freshwater resources in New Hampshire and
volunteering with the Upper Merrimack River Local Advisory Committee
using macro-invertebrates to gauge the health of the river. She is
continuing her education at Dartmouth where she intends to focus on
environmental studies and the sciences. We all wish Marissa
continued success as she continues with her education.
